Former
UCLID Fellow Awarded Fulbright Scholarship
|
|
The
UCLID Center at the University of Pittsburgh is proud to
announce Adrienne Wiley, former UCLID trainee,
was awarded a William J. Fulbright scholarship. Adrienne recently
began examining programs that address the needs of minorities
with disabilities currently in place in the United States
and New Zealand. With this scholarship, she will analyze
the Maori objective of the New Zealand Disability Strategy
(NZDS) with a focus on its creation and implementation.
She will consider whether this framework
for service delivery, which promotes
the rights
of
cultural minorities with disabilities in New Zealand, can
inform the development of systems in the United States,
particularly for Native Americans with disabilities.
Congratulations Adrienne!

UCLID
Faculty Member Collaborates on Autism & Diet Study
|
|
Meg Mayer-Costa,
a UCLID faculty member, along with physicians and psychologists
from the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh's
Child Development Unit (CDU), are researching the effects
of dietary modifications on symptomology for young children
diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. These modifications
include the popular, yet largely unstudied, recommendation
for children to follow a gluten-fee/casein-free diet, or
take omega 3 fatty acid supplements, or follow a sugar
restricted diet. Results from this study may assist with
treatment of
children with this disorder. If you are interested in learning
more about this study, please call Dr. Michelle Zimmer
at 412-692-8404.
