Practicums
UCLID practicum students participate in one of UCLIDs
three interdisciplinary courses. Practicum students are accepted
from the array of disciplines represented by core faculty.
Practicum students may or may not receive a stipend, depending
on their hourly commitment to UCLID. Students contributing
300 hours or more to UCLID activities are eligible for a stipend.
Clinical Practicum
This practicum provides an interdisciplinary clinical
training experience to graduate students in the health sciences
and education. Students will have the opportunity to learn
about the impact of disabilities on children, families, schools,
communities, and society through clinical activities. The
UCLID clinical program implements a family-centered, culturally
sensitive and community-connected model of care to children
with disabilities and their families.
Community Practicum
This practicum provides an opportunity for students to practice
and expand their skills in a community setting. Students will
be mentored by a community leader and by a core faculty member.
Research Practicum
This practicum provides a research experience to graduate
students in the health sciences and education. Students will
identify a specific unanswered question in the domain of neurodevelopmental
disabilities and will learn an experimental approach to reach
an answer to that question. The student will participate actively
in at least 2 phases of research: preparing a grant proposal,
obtaining IRB approval, designing a study, gathering data,
analyzing data, interpreting data, preparing a manuscript,
giving a talk or poster presentation.
