Background
Impressive advances in science and technology over the last
25 years have led to increasing numbers of individuals who
survive with developmental disabilities and other chronic special
health care needs. Service systems to support these individuals
and their families have become progressively more complex as
a result of the increased numbers of clients and the changes
in health, education and social policy. Identifying unmet service
needs, reducing fragmentation, and instituting efficient and
effective case management all require improving interdisciplinary
communication and collaboration.
University, Community, Leaders,
and Individuals with Disabilities: The UCLID
Center at the University of Pittsburgh brings together University
faculty and students, Community service providers and
health professionals, Leaders in government, business,
and philanthropy, and Individuals with Disabilities
and their families, all united with the goal of nurturing a
new generation of leaders in the field of disabilities. These
leaders are needed to respond to regional and national needs
for innovative, family-centered, community-based, scientifically
motivated and clinically effective services for individuals
with disabilities and their families. The UCLID Center is located
at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA.
The UCLID Centers
training mission is generously supported by the Maternal
and Child Health Bureau, Grant # MCH 2T73 MC
