Mike Armstrong

The Office of Exceptional Children:
  • Administers state and federal funds earmarked for children with disabilities and children identified as gifted.
  • Coordinates and administers programs to improve the academic performance of children with disabilities.
  • Provides information, technical assistance, and support to parents and families of children with disabilities and children identified as gifted.
  • Coordinates and administers initiatives to improve outcomes for children identified as gifted.
  • Implements a statewide monitoring and complaint resolution system designed to assess district/educational agency compliance with federal and state laws and regulations applicable to children with disabilities.
  • Provides technical assistance to districts and educational agencies around issues of compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education.
