Allegheny Children's Initiative, Inc. (ACI) was established in 1993 by Allegheny County Children, Youth and Families and Mental Health/Mental Retardation Departments to provide case management services for children and adolescents who needed assistance beyond the traditional array of services. Allegheny Children's Initiative, Inc. provides Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services for Children and Adolescents (BHRSCA). They are designed to provide a range of non-traditional mental health services to the child or adolescent who has emotional and behavioral problems that inhibit functioning in the home, educational and/or community settings. Allegheny Children's Initiative also provides intensive case management and resource coordination and family-based mental health services. Family-Based Mental Health Services (FBMH) include family-oriented therapies, case management, emergency crisis intervention, 24 hour/7 day availability, family support and respite services. Allegheny Children's Initiative, Inc. is now accepting referrals for children and adolescents who are deaf or hard of hearing, or for hearing children of deaf parents. Allegheny Children's Initiative has mental health practitioners on staff who are trained in American Sign Language (ASL) and are familiar with and have access to the assistive devices necessary to work with deaf clients or families who do no use ASL.
